Application procedure:
  1. submit all application documents in a clear plastic folder to DITMAWA by February 24th, 2016 at the latest

TSSP Tohoku University Science Summer Program, Summer 2016
July 4th to July 15th, 2016
About the Program:
TSSP is designed for undergraduates majoring science and engineering. It aims to provide students with insight on what world society needs based on advanced science and technology in the future and how they can contribute to society. Program participants will have an opportunity to experience lectures with facility/laboratory visits followed by a final presentation based on group work. Topics covered in this program are:  Spintronics – Computer Vision in Robotics – Robotics – Neutrinos – Carbon Nanotube – Modern
Physical Chemistry – The 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and more. (Topics are subject to change.)

Eligibility :

  • Full-time undergraduate students of IPB.  Students must be enrolled in their home university during this program
  • Sufficient English Ability (Equivalent to TOEFL iBT 70 or PBT 520)

This summer intensive program provides students of our partner institutions with an opportunity to discover Japan through diverse learning experiences in English. The program offers intensive Japanese language classes for both beginner and pre-intermediate learners, topical seminars about Japanese culture and society, various cultural workshops, and field trips including a homestay experience

Special Auditing Student (Undergraduate or graduate students)
Students join the regular courses offered in each department or graduate school, where the lectures are mostly given in Japanese. Therefore they are required to provide evidence of proficiency in Japanese, such as the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) or equivalent certification of Japanese proficiency issued by the student’s home university. The certificate(s) should be submitted at the time of application.

Special Research Student (Graduate students only)
Students engage in research activities under the supervision of an academic advisor at Tohoku University. They are not always required to provide evidence of proficiency in Japanese, especially in the field of natural science. If the student’s academic advisor agrees to supervise in English, the student will not be required to show proficiency in Japanese.

Requirement for Completion
Undergraduate students: 13 credits or more each semester
Graduate students: 30 ECTS equivalent credits (750 school hours) or more each semester.
